Corps Coordinator PHONE: 815-334-4510 "MRC Volunteers Share Hurricane Katrina and Rita Stories" McHenry County’s Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) will meet from 1p-3p Saturday, December 3, 2005 at The Pointe, 5650 Northwest Highway, in Crystal Lake. Five MRC volunteers were deployed to the Gulf Coast following Hurricane’s Katrina and Rita, serving on Disaster Assessment teams, as Shelter Manager and Veterinarian Assistant. Their experiences will be the highlight of Saturday’s meeting. Launched nation-wide in July of 2002, the Medical Reserve Corps is a specialized component of the Citizen Corps, a national network of volunteers dedicated to making sure families, homes and communities are safe from terrorism, crime and disasters of all kinds. McHenry County is proud to include 280 MRC volunteers in its membership which serve to strengthen McHenry County’s ability to respond to natural disasters, emergency health events and acts of bioterrorism. As one of 20 units in the State of Illinois, the Medical Reserve Corps of McHenry County is funded by a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services and directed by the Office of the Surgeon General in Washington, DC.
